So the only reason not to screw somebody over is because of consequences? Jesus christ well that really sucks to see people who dont have any decency enough to show a bit of integrity or compassion towards anybody else. And these losers are forced to rely on the governing of an outside force to deter them from performing immoral acts.
If there were no consequences, how far would you go?? Petty theft? robbery? grand larceny? Murder? Where is the line drawn?

You would lose that bet sir. because there are some people out there who believe in the golden rule. Treat others how you want to be treated. Not everybody on this planet are immoral pricks. (although there are a lot of them)

You surely mean "Sir Tim Berners-Lee law" for the web or "Cerf, Dalal and Sunshine law" for TCP/IP. Al Gore had nothing to do with that...

If you're going to debate the ethics of scamming precious Internet money, keep it civil.

Just happened to see an interesting news story linked from snopes.com (Their daily news link - not one of the Urban legends they check out)

Oct 21, 1:09 PM (ET)

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands (AP) - A Dutch court has convicted two youths of theft for stealing virtual items in a computer game and sentenced them to community service.

Only a handful of such cases have been heard in the world, and they have reached varying conclusions about the legal status of "virtual goods."

The Leeuwarden District Court says the culprits, 15 and 14 years old, coerced a 13-year-old boy into transferring a "virtual amulet and a virtual mask" from the online adventure game RuneScape to their game accounts.

"These virtual goods are goods (under Dutch law), so this is theft," the court said Tuesday in a summary of its ruling.

Identities of the minors were not released.

The 15-year-old was sentenced to 200 hours service, and the 14-year-old to 160 hours.

Unfortunately that news story being reported in the United States is leaving out the full story. http://translate.google.com/translat...-8&sl=nl&tl=en The 2 teenagers also kidnapped and threatened the younger child with a large knife. 200 hours community service and 2 months of suspended detention is a pretty light sentence for what adults would be doing several years for.

A couple of days ago I got a chance to scam someone. I sold him something and he accidentally offered more ectos than we agreed on. I pointed this to him and he changed his offer.

It's not that difficult not to scam, all that is required is that you not be a piece of shit.

I did too a long time ago.. but it was 500 gold. Usually i don't pay up front for anything but i made the mistake of thinking "Gee he cant be a scammer because 500g is such a tiny gain." but as soon as i paid him he disappeared and jumped back to scamadan and continued spamming "ferrying to docks 500g each"

I guess u r right. I forget about the fact that there are immature people who will brag about taking advantage of a trusting person. Its people like this that makes the world a crappy place to live in. Its people like this that had me buy surveillance cameras for my house. Its people like this that have me shredding my mail when im through with it in order to prevent identity theft. Its people like this that had me go get a concealed weapon permit. But you are right, there are people that feel better when they get over on somebody. Then feel even better when they brag about it. I dont understand it but i accept it. It just sucks tough that mentality is even out there. People just don't know how to keep their hands in their own plate.

"last week i punched a baby in the face and took away his lollipop. Im awesome huh?"

TL;DR I guess there are people who have realized that people are inherently evil and have accepted it and have decided to live in a natural state.

Go read some Thomas Hobbes. He owns.

Believe me, i am well aware of the scum that exists in the world. I used to be right in the middle of it. Ill refrain from sharing my story because a lot of it is hard for most people to believe, but up until recently i dealt with scummy people on a daily basis.

Well... It's the Internet, so nobody really cares. At least you've, at one point in your life, understood the chaos that is humanity. Hopefully you'll be able to be a good little human once again.

Ive always been a good human. even when i was dealing with trash. (thats why i was so good at what i did) I was the only person in my "field" to conduct my business with integrity so i was pissing off the trash by taking all their business.

But you are right, that's why i refrained from telling my story. Nobody cares about a specific persons own life as much as that specific person. Thats just basic psychology: A mans favorite sound is his own name. People like to talk about themselves rather than other people. That is primal. But allow me to stop before we get waay off on a tangent. Bottom line is there is garbage in the world and all we can do is protect ourselves against those kind of people.
IE: Dont be so gullible. Thats why scammers get away with screwing over 12 year olds on GW, because a 12 year old hasn't learned that harsh lesson yet.

Wow! That's, like, thousands of gold pixels you've saved!! I'll have to do at least 3 or 4 extra raptor runs to make up for the gold pixels I've been missing out on from scamming in order to keep up with you!

lol Daze, awesome dude. How was that lollipop btw?

OT: No, I've never scammed.

Partly on topic... I wish there was a better way of dealing with scammers in this game. Yes, I know it's been said a million times, but surely there has to be a way for us to punish the scammers?? ? man can split the atom but we cannot find a viable solution for something like this? I will never believe that, sorry.

Last night in UW a guy leeched the entire run and blatantly refused to do his part of the quests. He was such an a$$h0le he even laughed in our faces when we confronted him about it. What to do? Cant report him for leeching. Report him for botting? mmm... dunno. Spam his name for half an hour in ToA. He'll still laugh it off and find the next grp to scam when you're tired of it.

A friend of mine came up with an idea for an independent website where scammers and leechers can be listed. Obviously this kind of thing could be abused so there will be huge amounts of admin involved to try and keep it fair - which is not really worth it in the end.

Anyway, my 2c...
